CRAIG PORT DESIGNS NEW KULULA UNIFORMS

Surprising news for Kulula fans. Local designer Craig Port was enlisted to redesign the uniform for their 200 members of flight staff recently. The challenge was to create new, internationally competitive looks to commemorate their 10th anniversary in the sky. This includes coats, knits, low cut vests to wear over pinstriped shirts in aqua-blue and white and school-boy ties. Certainly more colourful.

“Our fans have grown-up with us over the years and today they are unpretentious urbanites who are value seekers, looking for the best deal on airfares and service with a witty smile. Our cabin crew play a major role in providing this, so it goes without saying that they need to be dressed for high-flying success,” concludes Damen.

The new look will also be worn by the Comair ground staff at all the airports that kulula and their sister company British Airways flies to. Do you think Port did the challenge justice?

360 TRAINING - WOODSTOCK, CAPE TOWN

Not to sound too dramatic but two weeks ago something life changing happened. Me, who runs about four or five times a week and tries to eat healthily and be outdoorsy, was in for a shocker. Not only am I a lot less fit than I thought but I was introduced to a whole new world of pain that would change that fact. Wesley invited me over for a trial session and I decided to go on the basis that I want to be more fit and, let's be real, look better in these clothes I talk about here.
After the first session I could not stop thinking about it. If I did, the pain that followed would quickly remind me. So I organized my return and after only two weeks lost 10kg's and picked up 15kg's of muscle! I kid. It doesn't work that fast, and if it did I would be skeptical. The gym, which is located in the Boulevard office park in Woodstock, has an intimate setup with all the trainers occupying a shared space. Not only does this make for a far more conducive exercise environment but everyone is super friendly and you feel like you're getting the attention you need.
This is not the kind of gym where the trainers stand next to your treadmill talking to you, they get in there with you, on the floor and honestly help you do more than you thought you were capable of. I know it sounds trite but I've had trainers before and what the boys and girls over at 360 Training do is motivate, while building your body from the ground up. Core, strength, endurance... all tailored to your needs. This is not a paid advertisement. I genuinely encourage you to give it a try, if not on a personal trainer basis, then try one of their classes. Click here for more information.

SS12 ZARA YOUNG AD CAMPAIGN

Featuring a host of soft cottons and lightweight pastels, Zara for SS12 are aiming at a cool summer, presumably to aid you between the beach house and the yacht with safari influences. We need these now already so what are the chances of getting them in our local stores? Hmmm... Shot by David Sims featuring Robin Ahrens.

T BY ALEXANDER WANG FEATURING DIE ANTWOORD

They may be cartoonish and aggressive potty-mouths but I think they're awesome and fresh. It's great to see local acts make it so big in America. Of course there are a lot of other bands who should have made it there first but who is complaining? First the music industry took notice and now the fashion industry is having a go. Alexander Wang for his Spring 2012 collection T by Alexander Wang, has enlisted photographer Daniel Jackson to film Yo-landi and Ninja for the accompanying commercial. With that and the appearance on David Letterman it looks like our freaky little exports are going to do well in the U.S.
Also take a look at the David Letterman performance below.

IT'S A HANKIE... AND A NOTEBOOK FOR $9.99!

This reminds me of the wooden tie I posted some time last year or the year before. Only this would benefit the wearer. Both a pocket square/hankie and a notepad. Practical, but is it wearable? You decide. Buy here if you're interested.

HEAR THIS: POLLY (NIRVANA COVER) AMANDA PALMER

I was just a couple years too young to discover Nirvana on my own, but luckily there was a constant stream of Nevermind from my brothers bedroom. He had long hair and an undercut and I thought he was pretty darn cool. Of course he's married now and wears golf-shirts but he's still rad.
This song was one of my favorites growing up, the whole tone of the album was a little haunting for me but this version even more so. Amanda Palmer is an American singer/songwriter and this is her intimate take on it. Take a listen.

MUST SEE: VOILA! MAGAZINE HOTEL FÈNGHUÁNG

HOTEL FÈNGHUÁNG is an editorial/short film shot for Voila! magazine by Steve Marais. With the inspiration of the movie 'In the mood for love' the group of creatives descended on Gold Reef City and the Swallows Inn to make this teaser. Featuring the art direction of Colin O'Mara Davis (who just so happens to be a swell friend), styling by Jessica Lupton and make-up/hair by Stephanie Payendee and presenting Kelly and Akio from Star models.

EL PAIS' GET OUTDOORS

Quirky and sentimental are two elements I love in a photo-shoot and this particular editorial has that and more. And who doesn't love some father-son bonding? Sergi Pons executes this beautifully for El Pais' with models Mario Sanz (who I want to look like when I grow up) and Aiden Shaw(who I want to look like now). Great styling by Migual Arnau.

HEAR THIS: COLLEGE FEAT. ELECTRIC YOUTH - A REAL HERO (DRIVE SOUNDTRACK)

Currently on repeat is the soundtrack to Drive, a movie that features Ryan Gosling in one of his best roles to date. The music could not have been paired better. It's makes for fantastic background music (I'm exercising this right now) because it's offers a mix of lonely Euro-pop with an 80s feel and lots of synthesizers. Awesome. Check out my favorite song on the album "A real hero" by College, feat. Electric Youth.
